In December, 97 countries submitted their best films. Three countries submitted a film for the first time, Lesotho, Sudan and Suriname. In February, from over 90 films, 15 films were selected as semi-finalists for the short list. On March 15, only 5 films were officially nominated.
On April 25, 2021 - "Another Round" Won the Oscar for the Best International film.
The Academy changed the category from "Foreign" to "International" film in 2019.

June 2024 in Shanghai, China. The Shanghai International Film Festival is China's biggest film festival, it began in 1993.
August 28- September 7, 2024 in Venice, Italy. The Venice International Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world and one of the most prestigious. The Festival was organized for the first time in 1932.
September 9-19, 2024 in Toronto, Canada. The Toronto International Film Festival was founded in 1976.
October 4-13, 2023 in Busan, South Korea. The Busan International Film Festival was started in 1996.
October 23 - November 1, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. The Tokyo International Film Festival began in 1985.
November 5-10, 2023 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The Africa International Film Festival was founded in 2010. It is an international film showcase with participation from countries all over Africa.
November 15-24, 2023 in Cairo, Egypt. The Cairo International Film Festival started in 1976 and is the oldest running festival in the Arab World.
November 20-28, 2023 in Goa, India. Founded in 1952, hundreds of films from India and around the world are celebrated.
